Addictions, Recommendations, and other ways to waste time...
I'd like to start out by saying that my life is now so extremely boring that I have started to discover ways in which to waste time.
So, whether you are now a cube monkey at a job, trying to procrastinate on homework, or just generally bored (weekends, anyone?? heehee) - here is Lauren's guide to wasting time!!
Internet sites!
**Lots and lots of games!!! Classics such as the helicopter game, pac-man, mini-golf (an online fad!), duck hunt, etc...as well as new favorites such as Save the Sheriff (a cute little pig trying to save his owner), Gold Miner, Waterslide, etc....ah, the many hours one could waste playing stupid games!
**More games (but some doubles) - including save the sheriff and waterslide, but also many others.
**Ebay!!!!!!!! Whether to buy or just look around for no reason, or to try and find really ridiculous things, like the Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich, or a jar of air from Angelina Jolie, or whatever the fuck that was.
**Anything and everything you ever wanted to know about movies...
**Want a song lyric?? Look it up! This is especially good for looking up song lyrics when re-writing aim profiles....:)
**Want to write your own online journal?? Look at either blogger or livejournal...the perks of having a livejournal account is that you can read my livejournal, which is where I've been posting more entries based on the fact that I can moderate who reads those entries...
**College student? Waste some time on The Facebook...which doesn't seem to have all that much of a purpose, but hey, it's been fun getting in touch with some of my long-lost high school pals...or at least acquaintances, and it's kinda funny to see what people are up to these days!
**Anything and everything you ever wanted to know about your favorite TV shows - on DVD....the makers of this site have just about everything. Watch out - it's highly addicting. Make sure to register so you can get updates on your favorite TV shows!
**Christopher Walken for President!!! (who cares if it's a spoof?? he'd probably do better than Dubya. More cowbell, please!)
Movies/TV Shows to watch
As I survey my vast collection of movies, I'm thinking that this isn't nearly complete. Any suggestions for good movies to watch, please feel free to leave a comment!!
Movies
**Airplane! 1980 - a Zucker brothers production...wacky, crazy, and just overall stupid humor...if you haven't watched this, consider yourself deprived.
**Blazing Saddles - a Mel Brooks production...lots of stupid humor, as well as a stellar cast. See it. Now.
**Clueless! Whatever Edition - I guess it really doesn't matter which edition you watch, but it's a classic movie.
**Dead Poets Society - another classic movie...intellectual as well, but if you're going for looks, we've got Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard. And a rare serious role for Robin Williams.
**Empire Records - I recently broaded my DVD collection with this movie...after watching the VHS nonstop for about six years...ah, a classic, and probably my all-time favorite movie!
**Forrest Gump - as a history major, I'm more and more amused by this as I catch more of the subtle (and not so subtle) historical references, as well as how Forrest managed to get himself into just about all of them...
**Garden State - a close runner-up to Empire Records...I consider this another must-see for our generation.
**Indian Summer - not a well known movie by any means, the DVD can usually be found for cheap at Best Buy and cheaper at Wal-Mart, but for anyone who ever went to summer camp, consider this both a humorous walk down memory lane as well as a movie that makes you think - at least somewhat.
**Love Actually - a romantic comedy that weaves the stories of about 10 different people together. Special interest for Wisconsinites as Colin leaves England to go to an exotic American locale - Milwaukee.
**The Naked Gun Series - I confess that I've only seen the first Naked Gun movie, but I was dying laughing. I just picked up the 3rd movie The Naked Gun 33 and 1/3: The Final Insult, but I expect it to be the same stupid humor. Made by the same producers as Airplane!, Shorewood's own David and Jerry Zucker.
**Saved! - This movie was criticized as making fun of Christianity, and if so, whatever, because you can't tell me you didn't ever know anyone like Hillary Faye!
**Sister Act - another movie criticized for making fun of religion, more specifically Catholicism, but I think it was tasteful, yet funny. And Whoopi Goldberg as a nun???
**Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - the original Gene Wilder classic. I love Johnny Depp but I love Gene Wilder more.
**The Wizard of Oz - a cult classic, the movie made from L. Frank Baum's classic book...while the book IS better, the movie is fabulous.
**Young Frankenstein - proving the 1974 was one of the best years for classic movies...made the same year with a similar cast to Blazing Saddles. For fans of the sarcastic humor and satire, go see this movie.
Also, go see any of the classic Disney animated movies (ie, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Cinderella), and the first four Muppet Movies (The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper, Muppets Take Manhattan, The Muppet Christmas Carol).
Like I said, this is just a small smattering of the movies I watch. I'm sure I've left out a lot of classics (either I don't own them - such as Casablanca - or I just don't care - ex. Gone With the Wind.) :) Any other must-see movie, leave a comment!
TV Shows
**Garfield and Friends. C'mon, like you didn't know that would be number one???
**Cheers
**M*A*S*H (while you're at it, see the movie the show was based on too!)
**Friends
**NewsRadio
**FAMILY GUY!!!!
**The O.C. (don't laugh. you know you watch it too!)
**The Muppet Show
**Firefly (i confess, i've never watched it, but i know that megan will probably leave a comment recommending it. and the movie serenity too!)
**Lost (highly recommended by just about everyone, including Adam and the nice folks at tvshowsondvd.com!)
**Gilmore Girls (another show i don't watch, but i know some people do - cough, matt, cough, leah ann)
**Seinfeld (not exactly a loyal follower, but i know many people, cough, andy, cough that do, and i will say the show has its moments. i love kramer)
**Desperate Housewives (since i'm like, the only person in the world that doesn't watch this show...it has to be at least somewhat good...heehee)
Ah, I'm sure there are others out there, eh? Let me know which ones...
I'd get to books too, but I'm too tired/can't think of any good ones, aside from a must-read (I'm not even just saying this): Harlan Coben's The Innocent. I swear, I couldn't put it down...
But we'll wait for my book list once I actually start reading things again. :)
